# Introduction

> What Altrum does for your organization's AI, and where to start reading.

Altrum governs the AI your organization builds and buys. You keep a register of every AI system, assess each one for risk, put controls on it, and send its model traffic through the AI Gateway so those controls apply to every request. When an auditor asks how you manage AI, the answer is already recorded.

## Where to read

These docs are split by what you came to do.

* **Guides** are for the people who run governance: registering AI systems, assessments, guardrails, reports, incidents and audits. If you are new, read [How Altrum works](https://docs.altrum.ai/how-altrum-works.md), then [Start by role](https://docs.altrum.ai/start-by-role.md).
* **AI Gateway** is for the people who connect applications and coding agents: keys, providers, models, budgets and logs.
* **API reference** describes every endpoint the AI Gateway serves, with the headers and errors your code will meet.
* **Help** has the error messages, the emails Altrum sends, the glossary and how to reach support.

If something you see in the product is not explained here, [tell us](https://docs.altrum.ai/support.md).
